A fish-cake shop in the Onomichi Hondori arcade, founded in 1913. Its kamaboko are made from Seto Inland Sea fish such as conger pike, croaker and squid. No preservatives or chemical seasonings are used. This time I bought okonomiyaki-ten (a fritter with cabbage and noodles) and nitamago-ten (a soft-boiled egg in fish paste) to eat back at the house.

This moment in the journey

Alleys at dusk, and an old shop's sign

As the sun went down I wandered the alleys. A sign reading Out for Delivery hung on the glass door of a liquor shop. On a corner of the arcade glowed the sign of Keima, a fish-cake shop founded, I learned, in 1913.

I walked back to the house along a stone-paved lane.
