A pudding made by Numazu Shinkai Purin Kobo at Numazu Port (97 Senbon-minatocho, Numazu). A blue ramune-flavored jelly, inspired by the depths of Suruga Bay, sits over a rich custard made with local Tanna milk and Japanese eggs. It was certified as a Numazu Brand product in 2019.

This moment in the journey

Deep sea pudding and a happy afternoon

Back home, I made coffee. The red enamel kettle went on the flame, and I ground the beans in a hand mill. Grounds into the dripper, hot water over them, and coffee dripped slowly into the pot.

On the counter by the window sat a toaster and the dripper. I set a green cup and a small jar on a round tray. Inside the jar was a "deep sea pudding" in beautiful transparent blue, made with the motif of Suruga Bay, the deepest sea in Japan. Under the blue jelly lay a rich yellow custard.

I scooped up the blue jelly with a spoon. The refreshing ramune flavor and the rich pudding go well together. With my coffee, I rested in a rattan chair by the window. A happy afternoon.
